Climate and Temperature

FF is able to propagate and distribute much faster in warm environments:

For example, the Oriental FF, which normally peaks at warm seasons, have relatively longer and more frequent mating seasons, resulting in higher amount of generations (between 5 – 8) per one year.

This helps to explain why the Oriental Fruit Fly lay much more eggs than other popular FF species – resulting in  higher FF populations and density, as well as longer and larger spreading scale of the species.

Another important factor is the area temperature:

To help us determine the amount of warm and cold days per year at a certain area for a certain species, in order to asses  more accurately the number of FF seasons per year.

By knowing whether an area has higher number of warm days per year above a certain temprature allow us to know how many generations there should be for a certain species.

  • TEMPERATURE IS AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT IN KNOWING AND UNDERSTANDING MORE ACCURATELY THE LOCAL AND GLOBAL FRUIT FLY DYNAMICS IN MANY ASPECTS.
